review:
A promising start that utterly fails to deliver. The premise of the 9th planet being a multi-dimensional black hole that an eldritch entity uses to convince humanity to jump across the multi-verse is a great hook, but the journey in getting there is so boring and dull, and so devoid of the actual substance and characters, that I couldn't wait to finish the book. This is more pop sci-fi than the quality of writing I expect from a sci-fi giant like Baxter. I have to be cautious of future books from Baxter after so many misses amongst the hits.,
