Careless People: A story of where I used to work,
review:
This book was hyped because a) its about Facebook/Meta and their shenanigans, and b) it was the subject of an attempted ban by the same. So I bought the book (Dunning-Kruger et al) and hoped that it was not all about a look how bad it was type of situation. It was not. Instead, what we get is a deeply personal, empathetic, and real story of Sarah and her life, which happened to be at Facebook. In the course of this, we are told of how it is bad, worse, misogynistic, immoral, illegal, and technocratic. In between these, she testified in the US Congress about how Facebook intentionally detected when teenage girls were most vulnerable when they deleted selfies just to target beauty product ads at them. Brave woman, good book.,
